Maker Space Workshops

The Middlebury Engineering Society partners with the Maker Space to host hands-on workshops that give students the skills to bring their ideas to life. So far, we’ve trained students on the vinyl cutter, laser cutter, and 3D printers—helping them create everything from custom stickers and keychains to bottle openers.

You don’t need an engineering background to join us. Our workshops welcome students from all majors and experience levels. Once trained, you’ll be able to use the Maker Space machines independently, opening the door to endless personal and academic projects.

Getting Trained & Maker Space Guidelines

We work closely with the Maker Space team to make sure everyone can create safely and responsibly. Here’s what you need to know:

Complete the Maker Space Pledge before your first workshop.
Respect the space—return tools and materials to their proper place.
Follow official training created by the Maker Space director for each machine. Our workshops will guide you through these training to ensure you have the skills you need to work independently.

Our workshops are built around these official training materials to make the process faster and easier. Once you’ve been trained and signed off, you’re free to use the machines on your own.

We’re also developing Learning Pathways—step-by-step progressions that match your skill level and interests. These pathways will guide you from beginner basics to advanced techniques, so you can confidently take on any project without having to figure everything out solo.

Collaboration Opportunities

We love teaming up with other campus groups to create workshops that blend engineering with their unique interests. For example, we partnered with the Women in Health Science club to run a logo design session—combining STEM creativity with hands-on making—and helped members turn their designs into custom stickers. If your club or organization has an idea, we’d love to work with you to make it real.
